I have said it before and I'll say it again....It would take more drugs than he was arrested with to make me want to have Al sr. for a dad. Poor kid he has to deal on a daily basis looking like his dad. I bet he hasn't had a date in years and only has sex with his left hand.


LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The son of former Vice President Al Gore was charged Friday with speeding and illegal possession of marijuana and prescription drugs, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.


Al and Tipper Gore with their son, Al Gore III, who faces several drug charges.

Al Gore III, 24, was arrested early in the morning on July 4 when Orange County Sheriff's deputies pulled him over for allegedly driving 100 mph in his 2006 Toyota Prius.

The deputy reported that he could smell marijuana when he approached the car. After conducting a search, the deputy found a small amount of marijuana and prescription pills -- including Adderall, Vicodin, Xanax and Valium -- all without a prescription.

Gore is charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana and a traffic infraction.

If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in prison, but he could be eligible for a drug diversion program, the District Attorney's Office said.

Gore, who was released on $20,000 bail, is scheduled to be arraigned on August 1.

A day after his arrest and release, a spokesman for his father told CNN that the younger Gore had begun treatment in Los Angeles.

Gore was arrested on a marijuana possession charge in 2003. In that case, police in Montgomery County, Maryland, pulled Gore over for not using his headlights. As with the latest incident, the officer "smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the car."

In a 2004 plea deal, Gore was sentenced to a substance abuse program.

In August 2000, North Carolina police charged Gore with reckless driving and speeding for driving 94 mph in a 55 mph zone. The reckless driving charges were later dropped, but he was fined $125 for speeding and his driving privileges in the state were suspended.

In September 2002, military police ticketed him for drunken driving near a military base in Virginia. He was not taken into custody.
