Daughter Dear and I went to a visitation due to my sister in law's mother in law passing away. Daughter Dear had never been to a funeral or a visitation. We've been lucky not to have any family members pass on.
So I told her to get a library book and she would sit in the back of the Chapel while I went to pay my respects. We get there and we see my brother in law outside so we speak to him before we go in. Well there was two visitations going on at the same time so Mrs.P's. Mrs. P's viewing was in the smaller room. So I'm thinking my plan for DD to sit in the back was shot to heck and back.
So once inside my father in law is standing out in the hallway talking so I left DD with him so I thought. I look over after speaking to a nephew and I see DD sitting in my mother in law's lap. I asked her what she was doing in the room and my mother in law informed me she wanted to say goodbye to Mrs.P and that I wouldn't allow her too. I told her being that she never had seen a dead person before I was a little concerned. DD did know Mrs. P and she talked to her at the Nursing home and had visited with her on quite a few occasions. I just didn't know how she would react with seeing her in a casket. So with my mother in law on one side and me on the other we made our way up to the casket. Let me remind you this room is small....
DD: Goodbye Grandma P I will miss visiting with you at the nursing home.
Me: Honey that was really sweet.
DD: Mom is it me or does Grandma P look better now than what she did in the nursing home...
Hush in the room.
MIL: A she does look good doesn't she. They did a good job on her.
Me: Looking back to see if anyone is listening to this conversation and yes they are.
DD: I don't remember her looking so pretty. Her hair was always fixed but she never had makeup on.
By this time Mrs. P's daughter walks up and tells DD that yes she looks good and that she was happy that she thought she looked so good. Then DD tells her that her Grams (my mom) has the same outfit. I looked down and sure enough she did but I wasn't paying attention to clothing. I look back and different ones are listening and smiling. All I wanted to do was leave at that point. But then Mrs. P's sister walks up and starts a conversation with us. I stood there waiting for what seemed like for ever to come to an end. I finally walked out in the hall to talk with my father in law and left DD to talk with the others. She left the viewing and was happy that see was able to say goodbye.
